Other Style Gin
Here we recommend some styles of gin that showcase the spirit in a different light. They include a sloe gin, an old Tom gin, a navy strength gin, and a cask-aged gin.
No drinks collection is complete without a decadent sloe gin. Bottled at a lower alcoholic strength, this style of gin has a sweet, juicy flavour created by steeping sloe berries in spirit and adding sugar.
Sipsmith Sloe Gin is one of the best on the market, and is made using the distiller’s London Dry Gin as its base. Each ‘vintage’ is slightly different year on year due to the impact of changeable weather on the fruit’s harvest.
Serving suggestions: Pop in your hipflask for a bracing walk and then mix in a Sloe Gin Fizz (made with lemon juice, sugar syrup and soda) when you get home.
Tasting Notes
Ripe strawberries and blackberries come to the nose first, followed by floral juniper, vanilla and a hint of fresh mint. The palate has a pleasant piquancy and a dry juniper background. Flavours include caramelised apple, sweet almond and a moreish punch of stewed cherry.
