Made from Natural Beeswax, Barrel wax is used during the curing process for whisky ageing barrels. While curing a barrel should seal any natural gaps, a small amount of barrel wax is ideal for sealing up any further leaks.
To help seal a leak in your oak barrel, rub the wax gently between your fingers until it softens; to apply simply press in to the gap.
Our barrel wax is made from 100% natural beeswax, without any added synthetic oils or softeners. This is intentional, as it keeps the product food-safe, long-lasting, and suitable for use on wood that comes into contact with spirits. However, because it’s a completely natural material, its texture can vary more than a blended or petroleum-based wax.
Beeswax naturally reacts to temperature changes during transport or storage. If it has been exposed to colder conditions, the wax crystals inside the beeswax can become firmer and more brittle, which can lead to a crumbly texture. Normally, gentle warming helps these crystals relax and return to a softer, more malleable state — but in some cases, if the wax has cooled too quickly or unevenly, it may not fully recover its smooth consistency.
