Today there are hundreds of distilleries producing whisky in countries without a traditional heritage in the spirit, from England and Wales to Israel and Sweden. These new whisky makers are providing innovation and a whole new world of flavour.
With its signature square bottle, Nikka From the Barrel is one of the most iconic Japanese whiskies around. A blend of grain whisky and single malts from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries that have been matured in a variety of casks, this is a powerhouse of a whisky bottled directly from the cask at close to cask strength.
Serving Suggestions: Serve neat, on the rocks, or with soda water and ice in a refreshing Highball.
Tasting Notes
It’s all vanilla, toffee and toasted oak on the nose with a delicate orange aura and black pepper spice. But this is a rich and powerful whisky, with plenty of dried fruit, citrus peel, cinnamon and cloves, with just a tiny hint of smoke toward the end. It finishes on bitter dark chocolate and a gentle Sherried smoke.
