The Best Low-Sugar Cocktails

Sometimes, a low-sugar cocktail is exactly what you need. Whether you’re on a diet or need to skip the sweet stuff for health reasons, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a tipple when you want one! To prove that cocktails can be just as good without sugar, we’ve put together some delicious recipes you need to try. With some clever tricks up our sleeves, these low-sugar cocktails will have you reaching for a second!

Paloma

The Paloma is a classic cocktail that’s lower down on the sugar scale. Citrusy and light, it’s the perfect refreshment on a warmer day and will satisfy your sweet tooth with naturally tart fruit juices. Essentially a grapefruit margarita, don’t be fooled by the fruity flavour as this cocktail doesn’t shy away from booze!

To make yours, simply shake grapefruit juice, lime juice, and Illegal Joven Mezcal or Tequila with ice. Strain into a glass and top up with sugar-free grapefruit sparkling water.

Gimlet

Gimlet’s are a pretty old-school cocktail that was almost forgotten by everyone but mixologists until the resurgence of gin. Now, they’re becoming a really popular drink at bars across the country, all thanks to their base spirit. Plus, a traditional Gimlet is super low on sugar! In fact, all you need to make one is a nice, easy-drinking Gin, like Hernö, and lime juice.

Basil Whiskey Sour

Perfect for low-sugar sipping, this Basil Whiskey Sour is both fresh and hearty. It’s simple to make, light to drink, and something a little different to offer your guests, making it an all-around winner for our mixologists. To make yours, simply:

1. Add 1 cup of water, ½ cup of basil, and 1 tablespoon of liquid sweetener to a pan
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes before cooling and straining
3. Add bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, and your syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice
4. Shake until chilled
5. Pour over ice and garnish with a slice of lemon

White Wine Mojito

A twist on the traditional Mojito, this recipe calls for white wine instead of rum and is naturally low in sugar. In our opinion, it’s the perfect cocktail to quickly mix when you’re in the mood for a tipple and should satisfy your cravings without upping your blood-sugar levels. To create your own, simply muddle mint leaves in a glass before adding ¼ cup of club soda and ¾ cup of white wine, garnishing with two squeezed fresh limes.
